I did an 8 day trek along the Langtang Valley in Nepal, which took me to the border with Tibet where we turned around. Most people try to go to Everest base camp or to the Annapurna circuit, so I was worried they would be a bit too busy and that’s why I picked Langtang. It was hard work some of the time and very cold at night, but it was completely worth it 🙂

When we got back to Kathmandu, I actually managed to get a travel permit for Tibet (it’s a restricted area of China) and so then I flew to Lhasa, the capital of Tibet, for a few days and then took a train from Lhasa to Beijing. The train journey took 3 days and went over the Tibetan plateau in China – it’s the highest railway in the world with a station at an elevation of 5200 metres. It was absolutely spectacular.

I’d really like to go back and trek through another bit of the Himalayas one day. It’s very very beautiful and the people there are so friendly.

Are you thinking of going to the Himalayas?
