Hey Eloise – we think there are about 100 billion galaxies in the universe (so 100 billion minus one more 🙂 ). We haven’t actually seen all of them, but we know roughly what the density of galaxies is (i.e. the number in a particular volume) and we can multiply up.
It’s mind-blowing to think there are about 100 billion galaxies, but even the nearest one to us would still take 6 billion years to travel to in a regular rocket 😮
